Welcome to Upstart Projects!

Let me be the first one to officially welcome you to Upstart Projects!  I know what you're thinking: what's Upstart Projects?  It's an easy question to answer, but one that doesn't start here.  Instead it starts at Kickstarter.com.

Question #2: What's Kickstarter?  It might be best for them to answer that themselves:

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects.
We believe that:
• A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
• A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.
Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.
Here's the deal: there are creative people everywhere.  Thanks to the internet, it's easier than ever to spread the word about a particular project, be it music, writing, crafts, or anything else.  It's also easier to find an audience (or a creator!) for those niche things you thought only you loved.

There's still the same obstacle that's plagued artists of all sorts for ages, though - funding.  Whether someone's doing a project that's a labor of love or looking to get a business off the ground, they'll more often than not need money to get the ball rolling.  They can front the money themselves and hope to make it back (and more) through sales of whatever they're making, but that's a pretty big investment.

That's where you come in.  Kickstarter allows you to get your Medici on and patronize your favorite projects and creators.  Someone starts a project, asks for funding to go through with it, and offers levels of rewards for varying donations.  If the monetary goal is reached by the project deadline, you're charged, the project is funded, and you get your reward!  If it (unfortunately) isn't, you aren't on the rope for anything and there's no money lost.  Pretty sweet deal, right?

Kickstarter has hundreds of awesome projects.  Here at Upstart Projects we highlight, discuss, and review some of our favorites.  If you have one you want us to look at, or are a creator looking to get a spotlight shined on one of your own projects, feel free to let us know!
